Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris born October 20th, 1964) is an American politician and lawyer who is the 49th and current vice-president of the United States. Kamala Devi Harris is the first female elected vice president and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. She is a senator and former US senator representing California. Harris was born in Oakland and attended Howard University, University of California, Hastings College of the Law. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office prior to being enlisted into the San Francisco District Attorney's Office and then the City Attorney of San Francisco's office. In 2003 she was elected district attorney for San Francisco. Harris was elected Attorney General of California in 2010 and re-elected in 2014. Harris was the United States junior senator from California between 2017 and 2021. Harris defeated Loretta Sanchez in the 2016 Senate election, becoming the second African American woman and the first South Asian American to serve in the United States Senate. As senator, she fought for healthcare reform and federal de-scheduling of cannabis, a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants and the DREAM Act, a ban on assault weapons, and progressive tax reform. She is well-known for the direct questioning she conducted of Trump government officials in Senate hearings.
